Non-narcotic analgetik have broad use in daily medical practice. Widely use them in a headache, neuralgia, rheumatoid pains, inflammatory processes, etc. As they usually not only kill pain, but also reduce body temperature, often call them analgetikami-antipyretics. Until recently especially widely used for this purpose pyramidon (pyramidon), acetphenetidiene, acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) and a number of the finished pharmaceutical products containing these and other drugs.
In recent years the attention to the possible side effects connected with use of pyramidon and acetphenetidiene is paid. In experiments on animals the possibility of cancerogenic influence of pyramidon (is found especially at prolonged use) and also its damaging action on the haematogenic system. Acetphenetidiene can have nephrotoxic effect. In this regard use of these drugs became limited, and a number of the finished pharmaceutical products containing these drugs is excluded from the nomenclature of medicines (solutions and granules of pyramidon, the tablet "Piraminal", "Diafein", "Analfen", a pyramidon tablet with acetphenetidiene, etc.). At the same time more widely paracetamol began to be applied.
A number of the drugs having analgetichesky and febrifugal properties with at the same time especially significant anti-inflammatory activity became widespread recently. Because the anti-inflammatory effect is prevailing at these drugs, approaching on action force that of steroid hormonal connections, at the same time they have no steroid structure, their began to call "non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs". A number of derivatives of fenilpropionovy, alpha-toluic acids (an ibuprofen, Ortophenum, etc.), the connections containing indole group belong to drugs of this group (indometacin, etc.). Include some drugs of a pyrazolon row in the same group - Butadionum, Tribuzonum.
The aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid, 1889) which is still keeping a foreground among drugs of this group was the first representative of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are most widely used at treatment of a pseudorheumatism, Bekhterev's disease and different inflammatory diseases.
Despite a number of differences between analgetikami-antipyretics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, it is not possible to carry out strict differentiation between them as to a degree all drugs of these two groups render antigiperemichesny, antiedematous, analgesic and antipyretic action, i.e. affect all main signs of inflammation.
