A number of natural and synthetic substances has antivermicular effect. The long time as helminthicides was generally applied by products of plant origin: extract of a men's fern, a wormseed wormwood and the santonin extracted from it, henopodiyevy oil, etc. Recently the new synthetic drugs having high antivermicular activity and safer, than applied earlier are created. In this regard a number of old drugs (henopodiyevy oil, santonin, extract of a men's fern, tetrachloride carbon, hexylresorcin, etc.) is excluded from the nomenclature of medicines, and some outdated drugs (methyl-isopropyl phenol, sulfur, wormwood flowers, pumpkin seeds, tansy flowers) use very restrictedly.
Modern antivermicular drugs divide into groups according to their primary action on various classes of helminths (protivonematodozny, protivotsestodozny, protivotrematidozny). However it is necessary to consider that some drugs are effective at the same time concerning helminths of different groups.
Allocate also special group of the drugs used in abenteric helminthoses (hloksit, ditrazin, etc.).
On chemical structure, synthetic antivermicular drugs belong to various groups of connections: ethanolamine derivatives (Naftamonum, diphezyl, etc.), benzimidazole derivatives (Mebendazolum, medical amine, etc.), imidazothiazol (levamisole), Salicylamidum (phenasal, etc.), piperazin salts, etc. Recently the new group of highly effective helminthicides - pyrazinoisoquinoline derivatives is discovered (a prazikvantel, etc.).
Using various antivermicular drugs, it is necessary to consider their specific activity, efficiency, shipping, contributing factors (the immunological status of an organism, etc.). (see also Levamisole, Quinacrine, Oxygen).
