Alkaloid which is contained in a plant periwinkle pink (Vinca rosea L.).
In structure it is close to vinblastine (see).
Synonyms: Leurocristine, Oncovin, Vincristine sulfate, Vincrisul.
Has cytostatic activity, on the mechanism of action it is close to vinblastine.
Apply mainly in complex therapy of an acute leukosis, a neuroblastoma, Vilms's tumor; use also in complex therapy of a lymphogranulomatosis, melanoma, breast cancer and other tumors.
Enter Vincristinum intravenously once a week: in the 1st week 0, 05 mg/kg, in the 2nd - 0, 075 mg/kg, in the 3rd - 0, 1 mg/kg, in the 4th - 0, 125 mg/kg, then 0, 15 mg/kg. On reaching remission appoint on 0, 05 - 0, 075 mg/kg (maintenance doses) once a week.
At use of Vincristinum the leukopenia is possible. Drug can have neurotoxic impact and cause paresthesias, motive disorders, focal injuries of central nervous system, intestines paresis, sometimes with a picture of paralytic intestinal impassability is possible. Also the alopecia, a stomacace, neuralgic pains, an ataxy, loss of body weight, nausea, vomiting, fervescence, a polyuria are possible. In the course of treatment it is necessary to watch carefully a condition of the patient, to carry out blood tests.
In case of a sharp leukopenia hold the same events, as at Rosevinum use. Use of Vincristinum should be stopped if peripheral neuritis, heavy constipations develops, body temperature strongly increases.
Packaging: in the bottles containing 0, 5 mg of the lyophilized sulfate Vincristinum with the application of solvent in ampoules on 10 ml.
